Job Description
Performs skilled labor with a major emphasis in irrigation maintenance, installation, plumbing, and electrical repair, operation of central control irrigation system, and general park duties at related City facilities.
Key responsibilities include managing and programming Hunter Irrigation Central Control computer system, making seasonal adjustments based on weather and field conditions; conducting irrigation inspections and audits; maintaining and repairing over 6,000 sprinklers and thousands of feet of drip line and drip emitters; repairing leaks of irrigation pipe and fittings within 24 hours; inspecting and repairing all irrigation clocks and/or satellites; repairing broken and/or leaking gate and ball valves; installing, leveling, and repairing irrigation valve boxes; repairing and inspecting reduce pressure zone assemblies (RPZ) and backflow devices; performing irrigation electrical repair, troubleshooting, and installation including 2-wire systems; testing all necessary backflow devices; planning and implementing water conservation practices; maintaining detailed blueprints, diagrams, and "as built" for all City irrigation systems; recording water usage data; designing and installing irrigation systems; providing technical expertise to outside contractors, vendors, gardeners, volunteers, and City staff; locating irrigation wires and pipes; following all state and county guidelines; operating all necessary equipment for the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems located on City of Cedar Park property; inputting all irrigation related tasks into the Lucity Work Order program; ordering all parts and tools necessary to complete job; maintaining accurate records of fertilizer and pesticide applications; coordinating, leading, and participating in preparing ground for planting, cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and pruning flowers, shrubs, and trees; mowing, propagating, and/or trimming grass and brush, including use of various light equipment and handheld tools; helping train other employees in the proper care of irrigation systems, lawns, and plants, spraying and cultivating of shrubbery, hedges, and trees, and the operation and care of tools and equipment; keeping Foreman informed regularly on job status; watching for pests, disease, or other deteriorating agents and keeping Foreman informed of developments to ensure eradication; operating necessary vehicles and tools, including pickup truck, chainsaw, carpentry tools, and garden tools; cleaning and maintaining safety standards in Parks and Recreation shop area; and performing other related duties as may be assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications, and Licenses
For Irrigation Technician I:
High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus two (2) years of general maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications and Licenses:
TCEQ Irrigation License required within 90 days of obtaining the position.
Valid Texas Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
For Irrigation Technician II:
High School Diploma, or its equivalent, plus four (4) years of general maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications and Licenses:
TCEQ Irrigation License AND Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License.
Pesticide Applicators License preferred.
Valid Texas Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
