Job Summary
The Metal Shop Supervisor leadsday-to-day production activities across metal fabrication operations, which mayinclude cutting, forming, punching, machining, welding, grinding, and relatedfinishing work. This position is responsible for coordinating employees andworkflow, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring productionpriorities are completed accurately and on schedule.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily work across assignedmetal shop operations to meet production schedules, quality requirements, andcustomer deadlines.
- Assign employees to jobs and work centers based onproduction priorities, employee capabilities, equipment availability, andmaterial readiness.
- Review drawings, work orders, bills of material,routings, and other production documents to confirm job requirements andresolve questions before work proceeds.
- Monitor productivity, work quality, scrap, rework,downtime, and job progress; take corrective action and escalate issues whenneeded.
- Ensure employees follow safety procedures, requiredpersonal protective equipment practices, machine-specific rules, andestablished housekeeping standards.
- Provide hands-on direction, coaching, and training toemployees; reinforce standard work and verify that employees can safely andconsistently perform assigned tasks.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance,Materials, Production Planning, and other departments to address equipment,material, drawing, and scheduling issues.
- Perform routine checks of completed and in-processwork to verify dimensions, workmanship, and conformance to drawings and qualityrequirements.
- Support equipment readiness by reporting malfunctions,coordinating maintenance needs, and ensuring required inspections and basicpreventive-maintenance activities are completed.
- Manage attendance, performance, conduct, and otheremployee issues in accordance with company policy and in partnership with HumanResources.
- Maintain accurate production records, labor reporting,training documentation, and other required departmental records.
- Identify and implement practical improvements toworkflow, layout, tooling, standard work, safety, quality, and productionefficiency.
- At least 3 years of experience in metal fabrication,welding, machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
- At least 1 year of experience leading employees,assigning work, or coordinating production activities.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings,shop prints, work orders, and basic production documentation.
- Working knowledge of common metal shop processes,measuring tools, and safe equipment operation
- Ability to communicate clearly, organize competingpriorities, and address production and employee issues in a timely manner.
- Five or more years of metal fabrication or relatedmanufacturing experience.
- Two or more years of formal supervisory experience ina job shop or mixed-process manufacturing environment.
- Experience supervising multiple fabrication processessuch as laser cutting, punching, press brake forming, welding, machining, orgrinding.
- Experience with ERP or manufacturing executionsystems, labor reporting, production scheduling, and performance metrics.
- Technical training, trade certification, or anassociate degree in manufacturing, welding, machining, industrial technology,or a related field.
