Electrician Foreman
Under the general supervision of the Department of Facilities Management's Deputy Director, plans and supervises electrical projects and coordinates the activities of Electricians assigned to various tasks. Interprets and reviews blueprints and specifications. Determines appropriate work procedures and materials needed; assigns work to Electricians and gives instructions on procedures and completion time. Observes proper maintenance of electrical equipment and tools; assists Electricians with difficult work assignments and situations; and attends meetings with the department's administrative staff and Project Engineers to discuss projects, anticipate problems, forecast project time tables and discuss the deployment of personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently employed with Cook County as an Electrician is required.
- Five (5) years full-time work experience as an Electrician is required.
- Valid Driver's License is required. This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge in the principles, methods, and technologies relative to electrical construction, installation and repair.
- Ability to supervise activities and review work of other Electricians.
- Thorough knowledge of city, state and local building codes as they relate to electrical projects in the Chicago Metropolitan area.
- Ability to communicate objectively and work well with co-workers and colleagues.
- Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports as required in conjunction with electrical projects.
- Skill in identifying electrical problems, and repairing and maintaining motors, lighting, power, control, fire alarm, high voltage and low voltage systems.
- Skill in interpreting blueprints and computing distances.
This position occasionally requires various types of physical exertion including, but not limited to climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving moderate to heavy weight. This position may require moderate to extensive travel to work assignments throughout Cook County, for which the employee must provide his or her own adequate means of transportation.
